I wanted a costume that was still a school uniform, but with slight alterations that a teenager could feasibly do - sneakers rather than dress shoes, spray painted school parka, dyed hair etc. The design direction was something a teenager could do and where teachers might be still willing to turn a blind eye and let it slide. But more importantly, what a teenager's interruption of being 'punk' was.

During the Morrison/Quietly run, he was written and illustrated with a more neo-nazi/skin head look. With 20ish years since the Riot at Xavier storyline, a 'today' Quire would be an obnoxious alt-right techbro socialist with no idea what any of that meant, but absolutely certain that’s how you get the attention of Sophie Cuckoo.
